Wheels
Wheels
Bicycle wheels are an essential part of the bicycle. You just won't go without them. Therefore, regardless of whether you are creating an individual bicycle project, planning to replace the wheels on your bicycle, or you want to have an additional set, it is worth considering the purchase carefully. Especially if you think about competitive riding or long expeditions during which the bike will be loaded with panniers and other equipment.
Wheels for a bicycle can completely change its character and make it much lighter or easier to ride it with the same effort.
How to choose wheels for a bicycle?
Choosing wheels for a bicycle is only a seemingly difficult task. The basic thing is to know what type of brakes and wheel size are on your bike. If you are not sure about the wheel size, you can usually find out on the manufacturer's website.
Another element that determines the choice of wheels for a bicycle is the type of mounting. Currently, there are two systems on the market - the so-called rigid axle and a quick-release. Unfortunately, they cannot be used interchangeably - the bicycle frame is designed from the beginning taking into account one of these two ways to attach the wheel. The last element worth paying attention to is how many gears your bike has on the cassette. Depending on the number of gears on the rear wheel, it will be necessary to select a wheel that will be equipped with a cylinder that allows the assembly of the cassette.
Carbon wheels for a bicycle?
Carbon wheels are very popular, especially among professional cyclists. They are definitely lighter than their aluminium counterparts, and in the case of road bikes they allow the use of a higher rim, i.e. the so-called cones. This significantly improves the aerodynamics of the bike and allows you to ride faster with less effort put into the drive.
Is it worth investing in carbon wheels? It is a matter of individual approach to assembling your dream bike, but if you don't want to create the lightest possible bike or you are not a cyclist fighting for every second, you may not need to buy such wheels. Especially since they are much more expensive than aluminium wheels.
