Seats
A bicycle seat is one of the three support points for a cyclist while riding. Its task is very simple - it makes it possible to comfortably ride even on the longest distances. It is the place where you will spend most of your time while riding, so it is necessary to choose the right one. A correctly selected seat in combination with cycling shorts will ensure the pleasure of overcoming even the longest distances. You might say that you won't even want to get off your bike - the only thing that will stop you from continuing is the weather and the time of day. But with proper preparation, even that won't be a problem!
How to choose a bicycle seat?
Correct selection of a bike seat is the key issue when looking for comfort while riding. That is why it is worth paying attention to this element - some professional cyclists are so attached to their beloved seat that they always have it with them. Sometimes, even if the team in which they are racing uses a seat from a manufacturer other than their favourite one, they are willing to blur all logos, just to be able to ride on the one they have adapted to them. However, what is the process of selecting a seat? You can of course do it by trial and error, but there are easier ways.
The basic knowledge when selecting a seat is the spacing of the ischial bones. They are part of the pelvis and we sit on them. You can make such a measurement yourself, but it may be inaccurate. That is why it is worth going to a bicycle shop equipped with specialized mats that allow you to check the spacing of these bones. Once you know what their spacing is, you can start selecting a seat. Most of the seats are marked according to their width - it is to this value that you need to adjust your spacing. The closer the two numbers are, the better the seat will be for you in theory.
Special seats with a short nose are also very popular. It is an increasingly popular choice, especially among road cyclists. A short-nosed seat allows you to assume a more aggressive, aerodynamic position. So it helps you ride faster, which can be crucial when racing.
Should the seat be soft?
Soft seats are also very popular. It is a great choice if you are going short distances, especially on city bikes. Often they are also equipped with shock absorption, so you can ride them comfortably even without wearing cycling clothing.
However, if you plan to ride competitively or cover long distances, it is worth considering hard seats and dedicated cycling shorts. Soft bicycle seats used for long rides may result in unpleasant abrasions and burns.
